Forgotten Heroes by acta’s Malcolm X Elders

acta has been working with the Malcolm X Elders to create a new performance which tells the stories of some of the Caribbean war heroes of World War Two.

Learn about Billy Strachan, Victor Brown, Winston Murphy, and others – just a few of the 16,000 Caribbean men and women who volunteered to support the war effort.

With such a significant and yet often overlooked contribution; we would love you to join us as we bring these stories back to life and remember their bravery.

We have been making theatre with the Malcolm X Elders Theatre Company for well over a decade, creating many original shows together. The company’s shows are often made from group members’ own life stories and memories of growing up in the Caribbean before moving to Bristol in the 50s and 60s. Stories that they were told in childhood, or happened to them directly, were featured in 2022’s Old Brooms Know The Corners, 2013’s Ticky Picky Boom Boom (which also toured to the International Community Arts Festival in Rotterdam).

We have an open pricing structure for our tickets – we ask for £3 for a concession ticket, or £5 for a full price ticket and it’s up to you to decide which of those feels more comfortable for you. If you would like to pay more, we would be very grateful if you could donate on top of your ticket. This year, acta’s 40th, we are also offering a ticket that costs £10 – which includes a donation towards our goal of raising £40,000 to mark this year and help secure our future.
