Forge
verb [ /fɔː(r)dʒ/ ]
To create (something) strong, enduring, and successful.

Forge was a two-year theatre training programme led by women, for women. Over two years we introduced young women to a range of theatre skills, and then helped them specialise in either production or theatre-making.

What did people gain?

  • Increased confidence
  • Clearer goals
  • New skills
  • Increased employability
  • Greater understanding of the theatre sector
  • New connections and networks

acta has engaged fifteen people aged 15-25 who identify as a woman or as a girl and face barriers to being involved in theatre. This free programme requires no previous experience, and is free to attend thanks to generous support from The Ragdoll Foundation.

What does Forge include?

We’ll host weekly workshops on Tuesdays 5.30-7.00pm (during term time) at our theatre in Bedminster (we can help with travel costs if needed). The workshops will include acting, movement, puppetry, directing, script writing, set design, lighting and sound design, stage management, costume design – they’ll cover all sorts!

There will also be mentoring sessions with a theatre professional, outings to the theatre, and some written work necessary for the Silver Arts Awards.

What happens at the end?

At the end of the year there’ll be a public performance so you can put your learning into practice and showcase your talents to your friends, family and the wider public. You’ll also receive your Arts Award qualification.
