  7. Come Together

Just a couple of days ago, at the very end of March we opened our doors on a rainy Sunday for a Community event we called ‘Come Together’.

With drop in art workshops that included making flags (however you wanted to design them!), using an Afghan box camera, and Arabic calligraphy, it was a creative celebration of a vibrant community. We enjoyed lemon cake made by a fantastic volunteer, and listened to beautiful bağlama music played by Ozcan Ates, supported by Charlie Groves on guitar. We asked people that came to share their thoughts and reflections on the day via post-it note, one person wrote “Joyous, uplifting, togetherness”, and another shared “Smiley faces, welcoming, all ages – a feeling of warmth”.

The event was beautifully documented by illustrator Jasmine Thompson – here are a few images that we feel captured the spirit of the day.

This event was made possible thanks to funding from the Bristol Community Recovery grants programme, an initiative supported by Bristol City Council and the Quartet Community Foundation to help strengthen community connection and support recovery and cohesion across the city- particularly in response to recent division.
